Whether you are a lighting professional who is always looking for new and innovative lighting solutions to various architectural problems, or you simply have a sign or an area that needs lighting up, take the time to see what LED tape can do for you. LED tape may also be marketed as LED strips, and this lighting solution is one that can change the way that your lighting set up works. Through understanding how these strips function and where and how you can use them, you’ll soon see why so many lighting professionals swear by this product.
An LED tape is essentially a long flexible strip where light-emitting diodes, more commonly called LEDs, are attached at regular intervals. Unlike incandescent lights, LEDs are extremely efficient. They have a use-life that is around 100,000 hours and if you want a lighting solution that lasts a long time, they are the ones for you. LEDs are also 80 percent energy efficient, meaning that 80 percent of the energy that they use is directed towards producing light. Compare this to incandescent bulbs, which operate at 20 percent efficiency with 80 percent of the energy lost through heat. If you are trying to light up a large area, or even if you simply want to get what you are paying for in terms of energy costs, LEDs are the clear winner.
LED strips are products that can be used in a wide variety of situations. The least expensive strips are made for use in a dry location. They can easily be used indoors, where there is no deterioration from the weather. These strips may also be covered with plastic tape or a gel cover which makes them weather resistant; a protective covering indicates that the strip can be used out of doors and in all weather. Finally, you’ll discover that there are LED strips that come with a loose silicone sheath, which makes for easy cutting and reattachment.
When you are considering how LED tape can change the way that your lighting works, consider how you need to attach it to your wall or sign. Most types of LED strips have their own adhesive backing. This means that all you need to do is peel the plastic back and attach it straight to the surface where you want it to be. While the surface that you are sticking the tape to should be clean and free of debris to induce better adhesion, no other preparation is required.
