I’ve been a reporter for the New Orleans Advocate since 2015. I cover the courts and criminal justice.

Among many other subjects, I’ve written about the Police Department’s sky-high 911 response times, a dead jazzman’s stolen trumpet and the nearly eight years an alleged crack dealer spent in jail awaiting trial.

More clips are online here.

I’ve shared with my colleagues a Sigma Chi Delta award from the Society of Professional Journalists for our police response time series and a breaking news award from the Associated Press Sports Editors for our coverage of the shooting of former Saints player Will Smith.

On the side I’ve freelanced pieces for The Nation and The New Republic.

I came to the Advocate from the Huffington Post, where I was a national reporter. My journeys took me from the Occupy Wall Street protests to the trial of Chelsea Manning to the streets of Ferguson, Missouri.

I’m a Hoosier by birth and a graduate of Brown University. I cut my teeth writing for the Indianapolis alt-weekly.
